Growing up in Milwaukee, I had a chance to see Spahn pitch occasionally. I remember most vividly a crucial game against the Dodgers in which he picked a man off third with as sweet a move as any right hander's move to first. How the pitcher, third baseman, and probably catcher coordinated this unusual move astounds me to this day. Spahn was the greatest pitcher of the second half of the twentieth century and mastered every aspect of the game, from hitting to fielding.

When Warren Spahn hit a homer off Mel Wright of the Cardinals on August 15, 1955, he had hit a home run in every National League ballpark...quite an unusual feat for a picher.
